Model 541

DESCRIPTION
The Model 541 is a component tester, with a switching capability for conveniently checking IC's
up to 40 pins. It generates a test signal to test resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, and
other components. The voltage-current curve is displayed using the X-Y mode of any oscilloscope
or the Model 540 Component Tester. The 541 has two channels so that the component under test can
be compared with a "known good" component in the other channel. An "alternate" display mode can
be selected which automatically switches the display between the two channels for direct comparison.
The rate of switching is variable by the user.For IC testing, the 541 provides two 40-pin ZIF IC
sockets to accommodate all IC's from 8 pins to 40 pins. The impedance signature of each pin can
be selected by pressing the corresponding button. This is much faster than connecting test leads
one pin at a time. IC testing also uses two channels for direct comparison to a "known good" reference.
The 541 can be used as a companion to Model 540. In this case, the 540 supplies the test signal and
the X-Y display; the 541 expands the IC hook-up capability from "one pin at a time" to "all pins
simultaneously." Each pin is then tested by pressing the corresponding pushbutton switch.The 541 will
test components and IC's out-of-circuit or in-circuit.
